about

Chi Lupi is a binary star in the constellation of Lupus. It had been of little interest until strange reports began filtering back to SG HQ. The system was under observation by a set of twin robot probes stationed there to perform routine spectrographic analysis. Their mission was rather routine until they began detecting some form of unknown interstellar organic mass approaching the system. Attempts to communicate with the entity proved unsuccessful and the probes initiated defensive protocols in preparation for a potentially hostile encounter. As the entity came into range of their analytics sensors, they were able to identify that it was some form of cephalopod with the distinctive tentacles and bulbous head similar to creatures found in the oceans of Earth. Like them, it was capable of metamorphosis as evidenced by its attempts to emulate the shape of the probes as it drew near. It then began emitting a hyper data rate transmission which caused a cascade failure in the logic processors of the probes. With their processing systems stalled, they could only record the final, inexplicable act of this creature as it engaged in what can only be described as a process of "self cannibalization" until it literally disappeared into its own singularity. Subsequently, the probes ceased to function entirely. The SG crew detected their distress beacons and dispatched to initiate repairs. Once the probes' circuits had been initialized and reactivated, intensive AI counselling was required in order to correct a series of non sequitur stack overflows in their logic matrices. Eventually, these anomalies were aligned using advanced multidimensional causality algorithms and the probes were able to resume normal operations. No explanation of the purpose nor fate of the creature has been determined.

The duality which exists within nature has been the subject of much contemplation throughout human history. There is a wonderful balance at play in this dynamic. With the interplay of light and shadow, positive and negative electromagnetic forces, strong and weak particles, matter and anti matter, it would appear that duality is a fundamental truth of existence. But this essence has been extended in ways which have proven to be less useful in terms of understanding human nature and more harmful and restrictive. Humans have attempted to apply strict dualistic dichotomies to the realms of ethics and morality in ways which have caused serious harm to many. We see "right" and "wrong" as metaphysical absolutes which require absolute responses. "You're either for us or against us!" Find yourself on the wrong side of the divide and you risk paying a price that may include your very life! Yet this methodology breaks down rapidly within the sphere of human nature because humanity does not function on a strictly dualistic basis. Humans structure their cultures base on relative conditions. "Good" in one instance is not so much so in another. For example, where populations struggle to sustain themselves, polygamy or polyamourous relationships are a benefit for increasing birth rates. Where overpopulation is rampant, such interactions only cause further suffering. Before we stand in judgement of the actions of others, we must make sure that we are not biased by the relative conditions to which we have become accustomed. Where none have been harmed, the burden of proof lays most heavily on the accuser.
