The wreck of the Ultra Probe had been adrift near the Altair system for several years without any serious attempts at salvage save the initial attempt after she was first spotted in that region. That mission had met with serious problems which resulted in the loss of all the salvage crew and their vessel. Partial communications, which had been received from the crew, indicated that there was some kind of "presence" in the ship's cargo bay, but little could be interpreted from the messages as they were so garbled and patchy. The SG crew, determined to discover the truth about the rumors of the ship being "haunted", embarked an a mission to salvage the Ultra and came face to face with the so-called "phantom" of the cargo bay.

We are haunted by the ghosts of a future that may never happen. We see it all around us in movies and TV shows, in books and in music. These are the dreams of our ancestors, most of whom have passed beyond the veil into the forever night of mortality. We are the torch bearers of those dreams and we have been tasked with the responsibility to carry those dreams on to the generations that follow us. We cannot drop our burden. The line of humanity that has kept that fire alight stretches back tens, no, hundreds of thousands of years. From the flickering fires illuminating dirty hands pressing their charcoal stained legacy on cave walls, the fire has survived generation after generation. It has hidden itself in occluded protectorates during times of darkness and burst out when the light of reason has been allowed to shine. It has survived every indignity and obscenity humanity has conceived and yet it is still in danger of being lost in the smothering embrace of ignorance, fear and superstition. These are the true "phantoms" that threaten the spark of our creativity. Chase them out. Shine the lights of reason and creativity on them and watch as they dissipate and dissolve.

This artifact is the result of a live, improvised performance. It was recorded directly to stereo digital output with no additional overdubs, mixing or editing. The sounds you hear are exactly as they were heard at the time they were created.
