about

The Hunter had come to our galaxy to act as a guardian against the chaos of the void which threatens to consume our existence. He was the founder of the Order of the Solar Priest. Before his tragic death, he had communicated to the SG crew that he had a twin sister somewhere in the galaxy and that it was imperative that we find her as she was now the only hope of saving us from the impending threat of nothingness.

Reverend Funk had taken on the task of setting up a seminary and training program for the priesthood, a burden that demanded much of his time. While the training and recruitment process continued, Major Rim took on the responsibility of researching ancient records in the hopes of finding some clue as to the whereabouts of the Hunter's twin sister. He would spend hours and days and weeks and months digging through archives, running complex search algorithms and attempting to analyze symbolic iconographies in hopes of finding any reference that might offer some clue as to where she might be.

Through the course of their salvage missions, the SG crew had managed to gather data and records from across the galaxy. The central SG database was bursting with teraquads of data resulting in the most ominous of hay stacks from which to find this precious needle. Attempting to code search strings that might find anything of value required countless hours of careful scripting. Most times, these efforts yielded nothing of value and the work would have to begin all over again.

Rim had been at this for a few months now, writing one search algorithm, testing it, watching it come up empty and trying another. He was feeling pretty hopeless, but he knew, deep down, that there was something there, somewhere. Once he started narrowing in on data concerning obscure ancient religious sects, he started to find crumbs of references which gradually began to lead him down a trail he hoped would offer some success. He was focusing on any reference to unusual visitations or encounters with unexplained entities.

Eventually, he came across some records of a long lost sect in a forgotten system of the galaxy who's name roughly translated as the "Solar Sisters". Could it be? The name sprung from the translator and hit Rim in the face with a sudden sense of recognition. Using various language cross references, he began to assemble fragments of history relating to this group. They had not existed for long and it would seem they had succumbed to the most dismal of fates. It was all like a giant puzzle, but the pieces gradually began to fall into place.

The records of the Solar Sisters were several millennia old. The origin of the sect seemed to be in a small convent that had been established in the deep mountain regions of the western continent on Subra 7. This convent was said to have been extremely isolationist and avoided contact with outsiders as much as possible. It is something of a miracle in itself that any records of them survived at all. While they were fastidious about recording their history for their own private use, it was only thanks to an alien raid on the Subra system some centuries after the sect had collapsed that their history was discovered and recorded in the computers of a ship that would eventually find itself in the scrapyard of the SG collective. Much of this data was damaged, but it offered at least enough of a framework that other anecdotal references could be integrated to bring the picture more fully to life.

According to the records, a short time after the sect was founded, one of the sisters experienced some kind of "illumination" which visited her with a prophesy concerning a child that would be put into their care. The allegories around this event seemed to indicate that it would be a female child of great power and purity. The sister was told that this child would be part of the key to saving the galaxy from some terrible force which threatened to consume it. For decades after this event, the sisters prepared for the arrival of this "saviour". The generations of the faithful prepared for the blessing and waited patiently. They did not know when it would happen nor how nor what form any of this would take. They just knew that the time would soon come for them to take up the cause of caring for their charge.

One night, according to a rather confusing text from a nearby planetary system, there seems to have been an event which resulted in a meteor impact near the convent. There was much talk of lights in the sky and signs and portents, but the meteor itself seems to have been missed in all this. The texts indicate that the sisters actually discovered the meteor in the back garden of the convent, but only saw it as a large, out of place rock. They did not investigate it in any way and only had it moved to the waste collection area where it was picked up by the monthly collection tanker and hauled to the planet's primary disposal centre.

The waste disposal facility would process all collected rubbish. Workers would recycle anything they could and the area was open to scavengers who would pick through the trash and take anything they found of value. References in a separate text indicate that a scavenger found some kind of strange meteorite and noticed that it was partially cracked open and looked to be hollow inside. He used a small jackhammer device and managed to open up the meteorite to reveal an infant child within. As he was poor and destitute, he had no ability to care for this child, so he brought it to the red light district so that the whores could take care of it. Available records regarding this show that the child was taken into the brothels and the indications are that she became a prostitute.

There is no record of what happened to the child after that. The whores from Subra 7 were well known to migrate to other worlds by trading sexual favours for transportation. She could have gone just about anywhere after that. Rim wondered if she even knew what she was. Did she ever discover her true nature? What of her powers? Did she use them and how?

As for the Solar Sisters, their failure to fulfill their duty and protect the child had the gravest of consequences. The records about this are very poor and very fragmented, but there is reference to a strange, roving black hole or "space anus" which began to appear in the area of the convent. It would appear as a strange pucker in the sky and then descend to the ground, opening up and swallowing anything in it's path. It would seem that the sisters were, one by one, swallowed up by the mysterious space anus. This process occurred over several years and records from the convent indicate that those who lived there through this time experienced the worst kinds of suffering as they waited for their turn to be swallowed up. Terrible storms, diseases, natural disasters of every magnitude plagued the convent until the last of the sisters was engulfed in the looming void.

After that, the doom of the convent seemed to spread throughout the planet. Social structures inexplicably failed, the environment collapsed and the planet had to be evacuated. Within a few centuries, the entire system had been abandoned and remains that way to this day. The only thing that seems to remain from this is the echo of the shame of the Solar Sisters. They had been chosen to fulfill a great destiny, but their carelessness had caused more harm than all the centuries of their worship could balance. The faithful say that the sisters got what they deserved and Rim even found a few pictorial references to them showing the sisters burning in a dire hell of their own making.

Rim sat back in his chair and thought for a moment. Yes, there was a sense of accomplishment in finding this part of the story, but he knew this wasn't the end. The child was no ordinary child. She was an immortal super being and she was out there somewhere. She might be the most powerful prostitute in the galaxy and not even know it. The search would have to continue, but not right now. Rim needed time to process all this and to communicate what he'd found to the others. Then he could begin again his search for the "whore in the haystack".

Reference mission 049.

Faith is a blank cheque on your mind. When it has been made part of your constitution, you are at the mercy of any charlatan who has the desire to fill your head with folly. To have faith and believe means that you accept something as real and true when there is no evidence or information to sustain such a conviction. To accept something on faith means that you have abandoned reason and logic and have left the door open to any stray dog conceptual fraud that chooses to wander into the ghost town of your neglected intellect. All that faith demands in order to be accepted is passion. When a lie is presented with enough conviction, chances are the faithful will accept it as truth. The more who do so, the easier it is to spread the lie. Faith kills curiosity. Faith silences inquiry. Faith smothers potential and drives us down to our lowest common denominators. It is embraced by the ignorant for it requires no effort to accept a lie on faith. It emboldens the incompetent for it frees them of the burden of proof of any ability or skill. Faith is the solvent that dissolves the mind into a soft sludge of superstition and fear. Do not believe this to be true. Experience it and know for certain.
